Tips for Choosing Your Photographs:
When choosing a photo as the model for your commission, it is important to choose one with good lighting and detail. Photos should be taken at eye level with the subject and clearly depict the posture and expression you want to see in your completed portrait.
What I cannot do:
- I cannot accurately recreate a subject in poor focus
- I cannot adequately capture one's personality if I can't see the eyes. Please DO NOT send me photos in which the subject is squinting or the features are obscurred (by shadows, for instance). Remember: If I can't see it, I can't draw it.
Below is an example of a DON'T picture:
Though photo is taken at eye level, lighting is poor - image is small and out of focus.
Features are not clearly visible.
What I can do:
- I can change hair color/style. Love the smile in one photo but the hair is all wrong? Had a good hair day but the camera caught you mid-blink? That's easy---Send me both photos and I will use the facial features from one and the hair style from the other.
- I can add/remove background elements. Love the photo you snapped in the laundry room but hate the heaps of clothes in the background? I can make all that dirty laundry go away. No, I won't come and do your wash for you but I can create a more pleasant back-drop for your portrait.
- I can remove cuts, scrapes, blemishes and even braces.
